In March of 2008, A Mother’s Kiss recognized its 14th anniversary of helping the families of childhood cancer patients. Hard to believe. Even harder to believe is that we have grown to be an organization recognized throughout the tri-state area as a powerful advocate for these very special children and their devoted families. Actually, it really is not that hard to believe. The demand is apparent and we have an ever-growing team of devoted volunteers that help us at every opportunity. While this growth is the result of very hard work, there is unfortunately still so much to do. We take pride in what we have achieved, but we are disheartened by the fact that there is still such an overwhelming need for our services. I truly believe that we all wish for the day that there is no need for an organization such as ours; that science will outmatch childhood cancer. However, although we are getting closer every day, this is not the case. Until the time that it is, we will continue to work even harder to help these very special families.
In addition to the daily requests, we have also had time and resources for fun events for these special children. For example, in December we hosted over 200 patients, parents, and siblings at a wonderful holiday party in their honor. The children danced to the music, laughed at the clowns were amazed by the magician, and were given the opportunity to just be happy kids. That’s all any of us want.
Additionally, A Mother’s Kiss has been a past contributor to the
alternate therapy program at We are proud of our ability to help families during the holiday season, some of whom Christmas may not have otherwise happened. The children and families have been treated to gifts for all the family members, food, and decorations. The families provided the love. We hold dances that honor a special child honoree for a wonderful night of support and love. It is important for these children and their families to know that they are not forgotten. And how could they be? A Mother’s Kiss is all about letting these families know that they are always loved and always in our prayers. We intend to continue our work for as long as we are needed and give thanks to our many supporters for their ongoing help.
